” Vive la Frange” means Long Live Fringe
It already has lived long; the Mesopotamian used fringe as a form of signature, the Native Americans as adornment to garments, 19th century Victorian design both fashion and home decor employed fringe in myriad ways. The “Roaring ’20’s” brought us “Flapper” dresses which were all fringe and the love of fringe continued as the “hippie” style took hold in the ’60’s. And throughout it, all fringe could be found on flags, banners and military uniforms across the world.*
Vive la Frange is art you can carry
I create each unique piece by deconstructing then reconstructing canvas with the pieces I removed to make the fringe and adornments. Each piece is made from the same 100% cotton canvas I use for my paintings and to construct my home décor line.
Vive La Frange can be wearable art: stash your daily necessities in a sac with lots of pockets, attach one to your belt to keep your phone handy, carry a petite one out on the town for a night of dining and dancing, keep one at home to hide your treasures in.
Use them as environmentally friendly gift wrap.
I like them plain. You can add to the blank canvas however you choose: create a memory bag, advertise a favorite organization or slogan, use it as a writing surface for your poetry, draw a masterpiece on its side.
